The Chairman of the Serbian Radical Party Deputies’ Group, Tomislav Nikolic, accompanied by several deputies, today met the Speaker of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, René van der Linden, who is on an official two-day visit to Serbia.

The two men exchanged views on pressing issues faced by Serbia, and clarified their positions on the most important problems – such as the status of Kosovo and Metohia, as a part of Serbia, and relations with countries in the region and neighbouring states.

Mr Nikolic presented views held by the Serbian Radical Party – in his words, the ‘strongest opposition party in Serbia, and the party with the greatest number of voters’ – stressing the importance of ‘preserving the nation’s territorial integrity’, as a condition for Serbia’s co-operation with Europe and integration into the European community of Nations.

Mr van der Linden said that he understood and respected Mr Nikolic’s views, but also underlined that Serbia needed to fulfil its obligations if Europe was to provide full support to the country’s integration into the EU.
