Cabinet of the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia – Press Release

The provisions of the Law on the Exercise of Right to Health Care of Children, Pregnant Women and Mothers are not contrary to the Constitution or the Law on Personal Data Protection.

The malicious manipulations presented in the informative programme of the Radio Television of Serbia about a “special register or database” are false and tendentious, they introduce confusion among the citizens and damage the noble goal of the Law – the right to health care of the abovementioned population categories.
The role of the Public Service should be to educate the public how to exercise their right to health care not to strive for sensationalism or misinformation. This also goes for the other media which tendentiously spread partial information about some of the provisions of the Law on the Exercise of Right to Health Care of Children, Pregnant Women and Mothers.
We repeat that the Law does not in any way establish new obligations relating to data processing and gathering, so the claims that they violate the right to personal data protection are malicious.
The Law on the Exercise of Right to Health Care of Children, Pregnant Women and Mothers which came into force on 27 November 2013 ensures full health care to the abovementioned population categories, no matter whether they have duly validated health insurance cards, which was not the case before.
We remind you that this Law had united all the parliamentary groups at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
