Belarus Will Always Be Friend and Partner to Serbia, Said Belarusian Ambassador to National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marina Ragus met today with the Ambassador of Belarus to Serbia Sergei Malinovsky, with whom she discussed the current geopolitical situation and political circumstances in Belarus and Serbia, with particular focus on the difficult position of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija.

Ragus stressed that the situation in the southern Serbian province is constantly deteriorating and that Serbs living in that part of Serbia are constantly exposed to daily violations of human and civil rights, from the denial of the right to work, security, free movement and the right to freely express their views, to threats of confiscation of personal property of those illegally detained, due to the arbitrariness of an extremist such as Albin Kurti.

"The state leadership of Serbia, headed by the President of the Republic, is making superhuman efforts to guarantee the Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija the minimum prerequisites for survival in that part of the territory, the situation is increasingly difficult," stressed the National Assembly Deputy Speaker.

However, despite the fact that Pristina managed to secure strong support from Western countries to recognising the illegally declared independence, Serbia managed to get 28 countries to withdraw their recognition of the unilaterally declared so-called republic of Kosovo, said Ragus.

Belarusian Ambassador Sergei Malinovsky stressed that Serbia and Belarus have traditionally friendly relations and that, based on these brotherly ties, Belarus will support Serbia in every way, especially in terms of preserving its territorial integrity.

He stressed the importance of intensive meetings at the highest official level, especially emphasising the importance of the meeting between the two presidents of the republics at the World Environmental Summit in Baku. He pointed out that Belarus sees Serbia as its biggest partner in Europe and is therefore interested in improving overall cooperation, with a special emphasis on the economy, food industry, IT industry and high technology. Malinovsky believes that what should attract special importance is improving cooperation by the parliamentary friendship groups, i.e. parliamentary diplomacy in general, and extended an invitation to the National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee to visit the Belarusian Parliament.
