Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee Chairman Meets with Representatives of Raspberry Growers Association “Serbian Raspberry”

The Chairman of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee, Aleksandar Senic received the representatives of the Raspberry Growers Association “Serbian Raspberry”.

Talking to the Committee Chairman, the representatives of the Raspberry Growers Association said that the raspberry should be declared a strategic product of the Republic of Serbia. Speaking of the problems they face, they said that the state needs to participate more in addressing said problems as well as limit the minimum planting area for raspberry to 0.1 ha. They also said that the producers are kept under-informed and lack appropriate cooperation with local self-governments. They deemed it necessary to eliminate sort lists, centralize Serbian raspberry export and define the export price. They also suggested that the state authorities employ the appropriate measures to control the work of cold-storages in order to prevent prince dumping.
Committee Chairman Aleksandar Senic said he was ready to help address the problems troubling the representatives of the Raspberry Growers Association, announcing that the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee would organise a public hearing in early October with the title “Does Serbia need the raspberry?” and invite the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, representatives of local self-governments, Raspberry Growers Association and the media. Senic suggested the public hearing as an opportunity for the representatives of the raspberry growers to inform the Ministry and general public about their problems and make concrete proposals how to address them.
