54th Sitting of the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications

At the sitting held on 3 December, the members of the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications were presented the working text of the Brochure on Sustainable Urban Mobility by Vladimir Djoric, Professor of the Belgrade Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering, and Klara Danilovic of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities.

The experts said that the main objectives of the Brochure on Sustainable Urban Mobility are improving the quality of urban environments and creation of practical policies. The project is focused on strengthening the capacities of local self-governments to improve the quality of the environment, improve the transportation network, promote non-motorized transportation and improve public transport services. The project has been launched in two Serbian towns – Pirot and Sabac, while Krusevac has developed its own Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan.

The project is part of a wider initiative – regional project “Sustainable Urban Mobility in South-East European Towns” financed by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) within its Open Regional Fund for South-East Europe – Energy Efficiency.

The Committee Chairperson said that urban mobility is primarily intended for local self-government units and it is up to the legislative power to help them and provide them with guidelines how to implement the plan.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Katarina Rakic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Ivana Nikolic, Dr Vladimir Orlic, Dalibor Radicevic, Jasmina Karanac, Stefana Miladinovic, Dragan Jovanovic, Milan Ljubic and Snezana B. Petrovic. The sitting was also attended by members of the Environmental Protection Committee.
