The meeting was opened by Committee Chairman Musa Guliyev and National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Head of the National Assembly standing delegation to PABSEC MA Igor Becic. Committee Chairman Musa Guliyev thanked the National Assembly for its hospitality, adding that he was sure the discussion on the role of new technologies in the development and strengthening of information society in the BSEC member states would be productive and interesting.
National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Head of the National Assembly standing delegation to PABSEC MA Igor Becic said that the meeting of the Economic, Commercial, Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee is an opportunity to exchange experiences and deepen parliamentary cooperation between the PABSEC member states. Igor Becic said that the Republic of Serbia is committed to the development and strengthening of good-neighbourly relations and cooperation with the countries of the Black Sea region, as well as the deepening of cooperation between the PABSEC and the European Parliament, strengthening of regional cooperation and the position of the PABSEC on the global scene. Becic said that the crisis troubling the international community and each country in it makes the topic of the meeting - role of new technologies in the development and strengthening of information society in the BSEC member states, all the more important, opining that all efforts should be bent toward overcoming the crisis.
Having discussed the topic, the members of the PABSEC Economic, Commercial, Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee adopted a Draft Report titled “The Role of New Technologies in the Development and Strengthening of Information Society in the BSEC Member States”, accompanied by recommendations, that the General Assembly is to deliberate on at the spring session in June in Chisinau, Moldova.
At the 44th meeting of the PABSEC Economic, Commercial, Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee, National Assembly Deputy Speaker and member of the National Assembly standing delegation to PABSEC Veroljub Arsic was elected Committee Vice-Chairman.
Besides the National Assembly delegation, the meeting of the PABSEC Committee was attended by delegations from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.
