42nd Sitting of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending

The members of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending and the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy held a joint sitting on 29 May to review the situation in the Serbian economy in the small and medium-sized enterprise sector.


The sitting was attended by State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance and Economy Aleksandar Ljubic, Director of the Serbian Employers’ Union Dragoljub Rajic, Vice-President of the Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Entrepreneurs of Serbia Milan Knezevic, member of the Association Mila Jezdimirovic and President of the Confederation of Free Trade Unions Ivica Cvetanovic, who spoke of the situation in the Serbian economy. Economist, Prof. Dr Ljubomir Madzar and Dr Miroslav Zdravkovic, web-editor of the Macroeconomics website, also spoke of the Serbian economy.
In the ensuing debate the members of the two committees and the MPs exchanged opinions and views on the need to reach a consensus among all relevant political and social subjects in order to conduct thorough reforms of the economic system. They stressed that the public sector needs to be rationalised and public spending cut. The participants in the debate also spoke about how important it is to suppress corruption in public procurement procedures, the problems experienced by enterprises undergoing restructuring and the need to redefine the position and role of economic diplomats.
The sitting was jointly chaired by Vesna Kovac, Chairperson of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending, and Dr Aleksandra Tomic, Chairperson of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy.
