27th Sitting of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society

At the sitting held on 20 September, the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society discussed, in principle, the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Higher Education and the Bill on Professions of Special Interest for the Republic of Serbia and the Conditions for their Performance, submitted by the Government.


The Bill amending and modifying the Law on Higher Education was presented by Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Mladen Sarcevic who said the Law set the groundwork to boost the relevance of higher education for the economy and society as a whole as well as the acquisition of functional skills to improve the student’s employment chances, quality control of their education and adjust it to European standards in the field.

Speaking of the Bill on Professions of Special Interest for the Republic of Serbia and the Conditions for their Performance, Sarcevic said that it specifies the minimum requirements for professions of special interest for the Republic of Serbia and the manner in which to test whether the conditions for their performance are met.

Following a debate the Committee members accepted both bills by majority vote.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Deputy Chairman Prof. Dr Ljubisa Stojmirovic, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Dr Ratko Jankov, Doc. Dr Mihailo Jokic, Natasa St. Jovanovic, Dubravko Bojic, Prof. Dr Marko Atlagic, Milena Bicanin, Prof. Dr Milan Knezevic, Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic and Marko Parezanovic.
