26th Sitting of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society

At the sitting held on 29 October, the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society discussed the Information on the elementary education and upbringing final exam curriculum proposal for school year 2013/2014.


Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Prof. Dr Tomislav Jovanovic said that the final exam is an evaluation of the students’ knowledge and the school’s work, adding that the 2013/2014 final exam is supposed to consist of three tests – Serbian language, mathematics and competence and general knowledge. The representatives of the Education and Upbringing Quality Evaluation Institute, MA Gordana Capric and Srdjan Verbic, presented the Report on the realisation and result of the elementary education and upbringing final exam in school year 2012/2013. In the course of the discussion, the Committee members asked for additional information on the proposed final exam model and scoring for school year 2013/2014. They underlined the importance of elementary education and upbringing and the final exam for young people’s position and prospects in future education.
The Committee members went on to discuss the funding problems of Petnica Research Station. Following a discussion with the representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development and Petnica Research Station, the Committee members decided to write to the Ministry of Finance asking that the funds allocated for Petnica for 2013 be realised as soon as possible and to secure funds for its operation in 2014.
The Committee members decided to write to the Prime Minister and First Deputy Prime Minister asking for the allocation of more funds for higher education in next year’s budget, as well as the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development Project Management Unit.
The Committee also reviewed the Anti-Corruption Agency Information on a conflict of interest issue.

The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Prof. Dr Miodrag Stojkovic.
