20th Sitting of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee

At the sitting held on 26 November, the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee discussed the Ministry of Interior Activity Information for the period July-September 2014.

Presenting the Ministry of Interior Activity Information, Minister of Interior Dr Nebojsa Stefanovic said that, overall, the crime rate in Serbia dropped by 9.4% in the period May-October 2014. The Ministry recorded considerable progress in the seizure of narcotics, human trafficking, murder and attempted murder investigations, as in the fight against commercial crime and corruption.

The Committee members and the MPs who attended the sitting outside of the National Assembly headquarters – in the Palace of Serbia, asked about the progress of some specific criminal investigations, the announced amendments and modifications of the Traffic Safety Law, about child beggars, and how to reduce violence against women and children.

The Committee accepted the Ministry of Interior Activity Information for the period July-September 2014 by majority vote.

The Committee sitting was also attended by Chief of Police Milorad Veljovic, Assistant to the Minister and Minister’s Cabinet Chief-of-Staff Ivan Ristic, Ministry Secretary Milorad Todorovic, Head of the Police Directorate Zoran Alimpic, Head of the Directorate for Administrative Affairs Zorica Loncar Kasalica, Head of the Crime Suppression Unit of the Criminal Police Directorate Zlatko Pantelic and Advisor to the Minister of Interior Tanja Santrac.

The sitting was chaired by Marija Obradovic, Committee Chairperson.
