19th Sitting of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society

At the sitting held on 25 June, the members of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society discussed the problems caused by the eighth grade final exam.

The sitting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, President of the Forum of Belgrade Grammar Schools Miodrag Sokic and the representative of the parents of the students who took the final exam, Rade Vuksanovic.
Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic said that, based on the complaint filed by the Ministry, the Ministry of Interior conducted an investigation which uncovered that the following criminal offenses were committed: theft, forgery and distribution of the final exam tests. Minister Obradovic added that further investigation is currently underway, saying that he is sure all the participants in the forged test distribution chain would be discovered and face criminal charges.
The Committee members were also addressed by Assistant Minister and President of the Republic Enrolment Commission Zoran Kostic who said that, due to the resulting situation, the Commission had decided that the points won in the Serbian and math final exams would not be used to rank students in the high-school enrolment process. The students will be ranked by their sixth-eighth grade average, the results achieved in eighth grade competitions and the results achieved in the high-school entrance exams.
