16th Sitting of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region

At the sitting held on 28 November, the members of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region discussed the status of Serbs in the Republic of Slovenia – gaining the status of national minority, relations with the mother country and the problem of the so-called erased people.

In addition to the Committee members the sitting was also attended by representatives of Serbs from Slovenia, Slovenian Deputy Ambassador to Serbia Milan Predan and the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Slovenia Biljana Ilic Stosic.
The representatives of Serbs from Slovenia briefed the Committee members on the position of the Serbian community in the country where Serbs remain unrecognised as a national minority, and the problems of the “erased” people. In the discussion, the Committee members stressed that the position of Serbs in Slovenia is an open issue that calls for constant dialogue between Belgrade and Ljubljana, opining that the resolution to the status issue of the Serbian community is a prerequisite for the further development of relations between Serbia and Slovenia.
The Committee members will vote on the proposed conclusions at the next sitting.

The sitting was chaired by Aleksandar Cotric, Committee Chairman.
