13th Sitting of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy

At the sitting held on 13 February at the Krusevac City Assembly, the members of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy considered the options for the improvement of the investment and business environment and the use of funds intended to stimulate the development of small and medium sized enterprises.

At the beginning of the sitting the attending were addressed by Branislav Vesic, Head of the Rasina Administrative District, who said that despite a two-decade fall, the business activity of the Rasina District has considerably improved in the last four years. Highlighting the importance of having the sitting of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy in Krusevac to discuss the options how to improve the business environment in the Rasina District, Vesic said he was sure the positive upward trend would continue in the future with the help of the Serbian Government’s many stimulating projects. He also announced that in early March the German company Kromberg and Schubert is expected to lay down its groundwork, which will be an additional boost to the economy of the City of Krusevac and create new jobs.

Dragan Stevanovic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy, said that some of the Government’s biggest challenges in the last years were Rasina-based companies such as Prva Petoletka from Trstenik, Prva Petoletka Armature from Aleksandrovac, Trayal and FAM from Krusevac which are now either successfully privatized or being reorganized and restructured. Stevanovic added that the Government and the Ministry of Economy had made economic development in Serbia a priority, evidenced by the beginning of the so-called decade of business in Serbia this year. Speaking of development potentials, Stevanovic said that the Ministry of Economy had in the last three years, through infrastructural projects, secured 50 million RSD for the development of business entities in Krusevac, and 40 million RSD for Brus, Trstenik and Cicevac. Speaking of stimulation packages and subsidies, funds for the creation of a minimum of 10 new jobs and 100,000 EUR of investment into local self-government units designated as devastated economic areas are planned this year. Stevanovic said that, in cooperation with the Development Fund, through developmental projects, the entrepreneurs will have at their disposal up to 3 billion RSD, 20% non-refundable, to use for further business development, procurement of software, mechanisation and similar.

Predrag Vukicevic, President of Krusevac Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that by the beginning of 2017, Rasina District had registered the operation 9396 business entities, 1300 more than by the same period last year. Speaking of statistics, Vukicevic said that the Rasina District’s industrial production has recorded a 4.9% growth compared to last year, and an increased both import and export rate, as well as tourism.

Sladjana Backovic, Director of the Development Fund, said that domestic entrepreneurs also have at their disposal long-term investment loans, part of which, she stressed, is non-refundable. She said that this is an additional boost to Serbian economy and further development of small and medium sized enterprises.

Besides the MPs, the sitting was also attended by entrepreneurs form the Rasina District who exchanged opinions through constructive dialogue and were briefed on options how to further their business dealings.

Trstenik, Cooper Tire Kruševac and Joter Krusevac.
