13th Sitting of the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications

At the sitting held on 28 February, the members of the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications reviewed the Bill on the Confirmation of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of Hungary on Navigation on the River Tisza.

The Bill on the Confirmation of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of Hungary on Navigation on the River Tisza was presented by Veljko Kovacevic, acting assistant Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure. Kovacevic said that according to the Agreement Tisza would be open for navigation to all ships whatever flag they navigate under, unlike the 1955 Agreement according to with it was open only for ships bearing the Serbian or Hungarian flag. This Agreement also makes Tisza part of the Trans-European Inland Waterway Network which provides a solid basis for the development of bilateral cooperation and good-neighbourly relations. Tisza will follow Danube’s regime i.e. it will be navigated both by ships bearing the EU flag and ships from all states, said Kovacevic.

The Committee members accepted the Bill on the Confirmation of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of Hungary on Navigation on the River Tisza by majority vote.
