12th Sitting of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society
At the sitting held on 28 July 2025, the members of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and Information Society considered, in principle, the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Textbooks, submitted by the Government.
The Bill was presented by Minister Dejan Vuk Stankovic who said that some of the chief goals of the amendments and modifications are preservation and promotion of national identity through education, that is to have the textbooks for subjects such as Serbian language and literature, the world around us, nature and society, history, geography, music and art gain the status of textbooks of national importance. These textbooks are tasked with conveying values, tradition, language and culture, which are the cornerstone of national cohesion, stability and resilience to foreign influences, said the Minister. Another goal is financial accessibility - the Government will dictate the highest market value taking into account customer protection and the right to all students’ equal access to education.
Following a discussion, the Committee members proposed that the National Assembly adopt the Bill in principle.
The Committee went on to consider and adopt the Ministry of Education Activity Information for the period April – June 2025, Ministry of Sport Activity Information for the period January – March 2025, Ministry of Sport Activity Information for the period April – June 2025, Ministry of Tourism and Youth Activity Information for the period April – June 2025.
The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Marko Atlagic, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Prof. Dr Djordje Pavicevic, Sonja Ilic, Vesna Djurisic, Goran Spasojevic, Dr Dejan Guresic, Edin Numanovic, Zivota Starcevic, Stojan Radenovic, Ana Miljanic and Prof. Dr Mirka Lukic Sarkanovic.
